Georges Guynemer
Georges Guynemer, known as 'The Legendary', disappears on 11 September 1917 near Poelkapelle. His hero status, that he had already acquired during the First World War, remains as great as ever. He symbolizes the willpower, perseverance and determination of every French soldier. After the war, streets, squares, buildings and monuments were named after him in many French cities and municipalities. Even outside of France this is still the case, not least in Poelkapelle, where people are confronted daily with this distinctive personality.

The Pavilion
Guynemer, the small, frail man, becomes the hero of France and a role model for many. In addition to Guynemer, other pilot adventurers of various nationalities are also highlighted. Pilots in those days behaved like medieval knights: courteous and with an immense sense of pride.

The Pavilion
Aviation experienced a tremendous technical and tactical development during the First World War. The Guynemer Pavilion shows this development in all its facets. The many new ideas and possibilities, with which the pilots dealt with day and night to stay ahead of their enemy, are presented in the pavilion in a well-organised and clear way. Due to the constantly evolving technology, tactics changed at a rapid pace. The visitors obtain a very clear idea of this evolution in the pavilion as well.
